Neonatal Lupus Erythematosus

  • Uncommon disease associated with maternal autoantibodies to proteins of Ro/La (SSA/SSB) family (Ro>La)
    • Passive autoimmunity
  • The most common features are third degree heart block and cutaneous lupus lesions
    • Other features include leucopenia and hepatitis
  • Heart block requires pacing but most other symptoms will resolve within several months
