  • Mode of action
    • Very unclear- perhaps block overactive pathways involved in bipolar disorder
  • Side effects
    • Carbamazapine
      • Drowsiness, ataxia, CVS effects, induces liver enzymes (drug interactions common)
    • Valproate
      • Liver failure, teratogenicity
