Iatrogenic condition in assisted reproduction technology (specifically IVF) due to the administration of HGC injection (mimicing LH surge). It is characterised by multiple ovarian cysts and enlargement, as well as varying degrees of fluid imbalance: ascites, haemoconcentration, hypovolaemia and electrolyte imbalances.
Most cases are mild, and treatment is conservative (although usually the infertility treatment causing OHSS is stopped). However, in moderate to severe cases, management of the symptoms/signs mentioned above may be required e.g. IV saline 0.9%, paracentesis of ascites etc.
